Energy-efficient tanning beds

If you ask a studio owner to name their number one unpredictable expense, many will give you the same answer: energy costs.
The Russo-Ukrainian War and other events have cost businesses across Europe – and the rest of the world – billions in electricity bills.
Most of the energy is consumed in the form of electricity. So, what’s, are tanning studio owners to do? Get started by choosing energy-efficient sunbeds from the list below to reduce your small business energy cost.

What are the Ultrasun energy-efficient tanning beds?

Since 2017 all low-pressure lamps in Ultrasun tanning devices are powered by Sunfit Electronic Ballasts that offer a wide range of benefits, from no more use of separate starters, increasing the lamp’s lifetime by 20%, to lowering energy consumption effectively.

Especially with our devices designed without High-Pressure facial lamps (that are energy consuming) and that are 0.3 / UV3 certified for use in the European Union, we have a unique solution in a wide variety of low, medium and high-end devices.

The devices shown below have the 0.3 / UV3 norm and are equipped with 120W lamps with Sunfit Electronic Ballasts. The advantage of these devices is that they deliver the same deep tan as their high-wattage counterpart but with a longer session time.

These energy-efficient sunbeds deliver the same output as the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun but without the risk of burning.

FAQ energy-efficient tanning beds

A ‘unit’ of electricity is 1 kilowatt-hour, i.e. equivalent to running 1000 Watt appliances for 1 hour, and costs around *£0.34

The Q14 has 40x lamps of 120 Watt sunbed and uses 5.4 kilowatts, so it would cost around £1.84 to run for an hour.

If you charge your customers £2 per 5 minutes, the Q14 will earn you £24 per hour. So your electricity costs are 1.84/24 or 7.7% of your earnings.

Session time is based on skin type and other factors. The maximum session is 15 min (Non-EU) and 20 min (EU). Your aesthetician will guide you through the session.

*Calculated using the UK: Energy Price Guarantee (October 2022) electricity rate of 34.00 pence per kWh.

The Ultrasun energy-efficient sunbeds deliver the same results as the power-consuming tanning beds. The only difference is the wattage and session.

So you will have that sunkissed glow in 15 minutes but use less power.

The Q18 High Power can give you a deeper tan in the required session times. The lamps and the Electronic Ballasts give off intense rays without increasing your energy bills.

If you were to have a 15-20 minutes session, it would convert to lying in the mid-day Mediterranean summer sun, but without the risk of burning.

Most indoor tanning aestheticians recommend 3 tanning sessions a week until a tan is developed and then 2 each week after that to maintain the tan.

However, their recommendation is based on your skin type and other factors.
